Updated Global Financial Regulation, Transparency, and Compliance Index (GFRTCI)
The 2024 GFRTCI reveals only relatively minor changes compared to last year's edition. Nine of the ten top-ranked countries this year, including Switzerland, were also among the top ten last year. It should be noted that on January 1, 2023, several new Basel III standards came into force or were adjusted, increasing the total number of standards from 19 to 31. Many countries did not fully implement the new standards before this deadline.
Financial regulation, transparency, and compliance continue to be key factors in any assessment of a financial center's reputation and appeal. Five years ago, SFI introduced the GFRTCI, a comprehensive index that ranks countries based on their adoption of, compliance with, and enforcement of global financial standards.
In this year's ranking, Switzerland remains in eighth place (down from first in 2020, fourth in 2021, and seventh in 2022), behind Sweden, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Canada, and Luxembourg.
