Peter Wierts is a Senior Economist at the Bank for International Settlements. He studied monetary economics at the University of Groningen and holds a PhD from the University of Reading. Before joining the BIS, he was Associate Professor of Finance at VU University Amsterdam. He also worked for the European Commission, the Dutch central Bank and the Dutch ministry of finance. His research appeared in journals such as Journal of Political Economy, Economic Policy, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and the International Journal of Central Banking. He co-authored the book “Financial Markets and Institutions: a European Perspective”, published by Cambridge University Press.

Peter is an experienced economist with a strong track record in both international policy and academic settings. He is a skilled finance professional with expertise in strategic analysis and advisory work, external representation, international negotiations and teaching.
