The third edition of the Global Financial Regulation, Transparency, and Compliance Index (GFRTCI) published by the Swiss Finance Institute shows clear shifts in the country rankings. Switzerland currently sits in 7th place (1st place in 2020 and 4th place in 2021), behind Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, and France. The United Kingdom suffers the largest decline in its ranking, slipping from 6th place in 2021 to 15th place in 2022.

The Index's architects, SFI Adjunct Professor Alfred Mettler and SFI professors Steven Ongena and Christophe Basten (both University of Zurich) presented the structure and functionality of the GFRTCI and commented on the latest shifts at an SFI event organized in collaboration with the Fondation Genève Place Financière (FGPF) in Geneva on 27 April 2022. Yvonne Lenoir Gehl, Head Group Regulatory Officer at the Geneva-based private bank Pictet, contextualized the findings and spoke on her professional experience of the concrete implementation of regulatory provisions. With an eye to maintaining the Swiss financial marketplace’s position despite a constantly changing world, and securing its access to markets, the tenor of the event was highly supportive of Switzerland’s continued active participation in the development of international standards—at the same time cautioning a healthy sense of proportion to avoid the pitfalls of a "Swiss Finish".
