Aging Societies: A Danger for Societal Cohesion and Economic Prosperity?

  • Health has improved enormously; hence, the experience of older workers is an important resource that can be much better exploited than we currently do
  • Productivity does not decline with age, contrary to what many people think. Evidence from normal jobs shows that productivity barely changes with age, even increasing slightly.
  • There are no indications that aging fosters intergenerational tensions. Evidence shows that cohesion is unrelated to the proportion of older individuals across Europe.
