The most recent SFI White Paper assesses Swiss private banks’ progress in terms of industrialization in order to reveal whether these organizations have transformed their business models to meet the present and future requirements of state-of-the-art banking.

For that purpose, Professor Pascal Gantenbein and Kristof I. Trautwein conducted a survey of Swiss private banks. According to the survey findings, most respondents claim to have progressed only to medium-level industrialization, and such efforts have mostly been linked to cost cutting and reduced complexity, but not primarily to higher efficiency. The steps taken by most Swiss private banks to date are too minor to ensure that they will be able to compete in the market going forward. Thus, a true transformation is needed if banks are to meet the requirements of state-of-the-art banking.
