Inflation is no longer just a chapter in a textbook. After decades out of the spotlight, it is forcing itself back onto the agendas of policy makers and investors. While this time around things will undoubtedly be different, the Swiss financial industry must prepare for the challenges ahead. And with this in mind, the Swiss Finance Institute is publishing a Public Discussion Note to provide investors with a roadmap for navigating what is expected to be an arduous road to financial performance.

The key messages of this Note will be presented at an event that will cover, in a holistic manner, the issues that arise in an inflationary environment and that are of relevance for investors and the financial industry. A thorough review of the impact of central bank policy choices and the formation of expectations in this complex and changing landscape will also be conducted. Finally, a special focus will be given to the role the banking industry needs to assume when it comes to directing its clients toward reasonable and achievable real returns, and making them aware of the novel risks they will find themselves exposed to.

This Swiss Finance Institute top-level hybrid event will take place on May 19, 2022 at the Landesmuseum in Zurich and online. It will include a presentation of the SFI Public Discussion Note "Rising Inflation—A Roadmap for Investors"—coauthored by SFI Prof. Francesco Franzoni, Professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana and SFI Senior Chair, and Dr. Francesco Mandalà, Chief Investment Officer at MBaer Merchant Bank AG—and a practitioner's view of how inflation is redrawing the strategic lines of cross asset solutions, portfolio management, and relationships with clients, from Fiona Frick, Group CEO of Unigestion SA.
